The Roadhouse Family
Dwayne
As a teenager in Edmonton, Dwayne started out as a bus boy in a Hotel and worked his way up to Catering Manager. He attended Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and successfully completed a degree in Architecture Technology.
Dwayne’s background as a Designer, where he created spaces to make people comfortable, has transferred into his ability to create a restaurant where people feel comfort from the food and it’s presentation… to the atmosphere… to the attitudes of our servers. “It’s the entire experience that we care about and I believe it shows”, says Dwayne when asked what sets the Roadhouse apart.
Dwayne’s favourite dish is the house salad with his own creation, the now infamous Roadhouse signature dressing, the House Honey Balsamic, (he might be a little biased, however, we have several regulars that are as equally addicted) with a grilled Chicken Breast.. he says “it’s what helps keep my girlish figure”.
Dwayne has been seen jumping on the garbage in the garbage bins to changing light bulbs and picking up pieces of little paper on the floor… he has spidey eyes!! He loves visiting with our customers and ensuring they are having the FULL Roadhouse experience.
Sharon
A favourite saying of Sharon’s about owning a restaurant is “I cooked for over 30 years for others and now other people cook for me”… she says this with a cheeky smile on her face (and people wonder where her twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren get it from).
One of Sharon’s many functions is doing the books and keeping things checked and balanced seven days a week. She loves bringing in the wines and describing the ‘notes’ of wines and pairing them with our Roadhouse Favourites.
Sharon had a blast designing the women’s washroom with the “we are all stars” theme in mind. You will see some of her favourite Marilyn Monroe pictures. Sharon wants our guests to see the star that is inside us all.
Sharon has been a big part of creating recipes with one’s health in mind and infusing family secret recipes into the menu. The new Chicken Schnitzel is one of those recipes.
Young
Young started with the Roadhouse as our Executive Chef in 2003. During the time of our renovation and relocation, he became a partner with Sharon and Dwayne.
Young became a chef while he was still living in his home country of Vietnam and was a Souse Chef in Calgary for sixteen years.
Chef Young loves creating healthy foods from scratch and he enjoys teaching the young chefs the ethics of cooking. From attitude to the execution of the perfect dish, being a great chef means being passionate as well as creative and having a love for the food. “You have to feel it in your heart” Young said when asked what makes a great Chef.
Soups from scratch is probably one of Chef Young’s greatest talents… regular patrons have favourites such as Caribbean Jerk Chowder, Carrot Ginger, Curry Turkey and of course our Famous Borscht made with REAL beets! Young takes pride that we cook from scratch in our OWN kitchen and go the extra mile to make sure everything is fresh and healthy.
Young is the proud Father of three beautiful daughters and is also an accomplished musician. Together with his wife they are involved with their church and community and are great examples of compassionate Human Beings.
